How we got started--Our original pages about the former Terre Haute House:
NEW LEASE ON LIFE
(story from Fall 2007)

The former Tribune Building in Terre Haute, Indiana will soon take on a new lease in life as a Candlewood Suites (c) extended stay hotel.  The hotel will be operated by Dora Hotel Company LLC, operators of the new Hilton Garden Inn Terre Haute House across the street.  Environmental remediation and interior demolition are done and construction is just beginning.  The building was originally constructed in 1912 by local business man and past owner of the Terre Haute Tribune, Crawford Fairbanks.
HAD DATE WITH
WRECKING BALL
(story from Summer 2007)

The former Liberty and Grand Theater has now vanished to make way for a new six-story structure designed to match the existing former Tribune Building.  The Theater had been stripped of it's original beauty for many decades.  Later known as The Grand Theater, it ceased operation as a second play movie house in 1978 and was gutted further to become a warehouse for the newspaper's new printing press.

ACTIVITY RESUMES!
(story from Fall 2007)

The sound of work has resumed at the former Tribune Building.  Crews are back to work after the project was delayed for five months.   Dennis Trucking, the general contractor, is preparing the building for construction.  They are also preparing the former Liberty Theater site for the Children's Museum.  Commercial Interiors will be doing the interior remodeling and construction.
FROM RUBBLE TO.....NEW CHILDREN'S MUSEUM!
(story from Winter 2007)

Demolition of the former Liberty Theater was complete last June.  After abrief delay on the project, all deals were finalized in December 2007 and a Ground-breaking Ceremony was held on December 5, 2007.  Since then, soil compaction has begun on the site in preparation for foundations.  The site will be the new home of the Terre Haute Children's Museum.  In efforts to raise the remaining funds, the Museum is selling bricks for the facade which can be engraved with the names of friends, family, loved-ones, businesses, etc.  To sponsor a brick, GO HERE.
